Makerspace 创意空间

Have you heard about makerspace? At CISB, our students love this place because they have opportunities to use different technologies, tools, and materials to make their own projects. During their making process, students not only gain practical hands-on experience with new technologies, they also find their own solutions to solve problems. In this CISBe In The Know, we dropped by makerspace to see how students work and how they feel about it. At the same time, we’re pleased to introduce our wonderful teachers who help students every day at makerspace.

不知道各位学生和家长们有没有听说过makerspace? 在CISB，我们的学生非常喜爱这个地方，因为他们有机会使用不同的技术、工具和材料来制作自己的作品。在他们参与制作的过程中，学生们不仅获得了实际动手能力的经验，还能自己寻找到解决问题的方法。这次，我们特地去了makerspace教室，看看学生们是如何工作，以及采访了他们对创意空间makerspace的感受。同时，我们很高兴向大家介绍每天都在makerspace帮助学生的老师们。

Can you tell us what a makerspace is? How does it support student learning? Why do we have makerspace at CISB?

Makerspace 创意空间是什么？ 它如何帮助学生么？我校为什么要为学生们设置这样的空间？

A makerspace is a place where the tools and guidance are available to people who want to make things or learn new skills.   

In the CISB makerspace and the PYP, action is key to learning. We provide the tools, materials and skills for students to have agency over their learning. Whether that means showing their understanding of a new concept through making, designing something to solve a problem, or deciding that they want to learn a new skill, the makerspace is open to provide students with the resources needed to accomplish their goals.

Makerspace（创意空间）是一个给学生们提供使用多种工具，并通过探索、创新和设计，学习新技能的教室。在CISB的makerspace和PYP的学习过程中，实践和学以致用是非常重要的。我们为学生提供工具、材料和教他们技能。无论学生们是通过制作过程理解所学知识，或者是通过设计解决实际问题，还是决定学习一项新技能，makerspace都是免费开放给学生们，为他们提供需要的所有资源。

What kinds of materials and supplies do we provide in a makerspace? Which tools are most popular for students?

在创意空间中我们为学生么准备了哪些材料？哪些工具是学生们最喜欢的？

We are pleased to have a large variety of tools and supplies in the makerspace, ranging from high-tech to traditional. We have a 3D printer, several types of robots, iPads and computer stations, Makey-Makeys, electronic circuits, a green screen, a child-safe saw, a sewing machine, and many more.  Students love programming the robots, and making their 3D designs come to life in the 3D printer. We also have a lot of budding fashion designers who like to use the sewing machine and crochet. When designing the makerspace, we made sure that the tools and materials are all safe and easily accessible for the students.

在创意空间里，我们为学生们提供了多种选择。从传统材料到现代高科技的工具，应有尽有。比如3D打印机，不同种类型的机器人，ipad和电脑工作站，Makey-Makeys，电子电路，动画/电影制作，儿童安全锯工具，缝纫机等等。给机器人编程，深受学生们的喜爱。还有3D打印机，学生们通过3D打印机，可以把他们的设计打印出来。在学生们的参与当中，我们还发现了许多“未来时装设计师们”，他们喜欢使用缝纫机和编织材料，去设计自己独有的服装。在设计创意空间时，我们都会确保工具和材料都是安全的，便于学生使用。

What range of "subjects" will be taught in the space? What types of activities and projects could be done there?

在创意空间学生们会了解到哪些学科？老师们会为学生们安排什么样的活动？

The makerspace can be used for any subject. Students have come here to make science experiments to show their understanding of force. Some have made green screen movies with puppets and props that they made and a script that they wrote. Others have made items to help solve social issues, and the makerspace gives real life uses for math all the time. Coding teaches students procedural and logical thinking. The makerspace is the perfect hands-on learning space. 

Makerspace适用于各种学科，这里包括了很多学科。像科学课，学生们来这里做科学实验，以展示他们对力学知识的理解。一些学生会自己写的剧本，用木偶等道具，完成微电影的制作。除此之外，学生们还可以利用其它材料工具帮助他们解决实际问题，在这个过程中，也包括了生活中的数学应用。学生们通过编程的学习，还锻炼了他们的逻辑思维的能力。对于学生来讲，makerspace是一个可以展现他们动手、创新能力的学习教室。

When will the space be used? Who are the kids that will be using the space?

什么时间段学生们可以使用创意空间？几年级的孩子可以使用该创意空间？

The space can be used any time during the school day, and any student is welcome. Students and teachers just need to book a time and share their goals, and we will make sure that they have the time, tools, and materials they need.

我们欢迎所有学生来创意空间，他们可以选择在学校的任何时间使用。但为了确保学生和老师们有充足的时间、工具和所需的材料，能完成他们的设计内容，我建议他们可以提前预约时间。

What do you think is the best part of the makerspace? 

你认为在创意空间中什么是最吸引人的？

The best part of the makerspace is having the chance to be creative, and to learn new skills.  Everyone should leave the makerspace proud of what they’ve accomplished in their time there. 

我认为创意空间最吸引的地方是每个人都有机会发挥他们的创意和学习新技能。在创意空间里，每个人都应该为他们自己设计的作品感到骄傲。

Will we having makerspace exhibition in the future?

我们会举办创意空间作品展么？

Students love their creations, and they usually take them right home, but an exhibition would be a great idea!  Students use the makerspace to make things for their showcases and for their PYP exhibition, so keep an eye out for lots of innovations there!  

学生们都非常喜欢他们自己的作品，通常都会把作品带回家，但展览将是一个非常好的想法！学生们利用创意空间为他们的毕业作品做准备，所以请密切关注我们的创意空间，这里将会有许多创新的想法和作品!
